September 4, A Day in Kyoto

It is a wonderful thing about the Japan Rail Pass is that you can wake up in Osaka and decide to hop on the Shinkansen and be in Kyoto in 15 minutes. For the average Japanese person the Shinkansen is not a cheap thing and you certainly wouldn't just hop on it to go the next town over,  but imagine being able to get from Providence to  Boston in 15 minutes?

Our first stop in Kyoto will be to find J. a Starbucks. Don't get me wrong they are an oasis of free WiFi and have great hojicha. Now that we have coffee and tea (and a delicious piece of quiche)... Off to find a restaurant that we ate at the first time we were in Kyoto. Hopefully we won't get drenched.
After Starbucks J saw a Bic Camera which like it's competitor Yodibashi Camera are  big electronic department stores that sell everything from watches to video games to toilet seats. This one is seven stories of recorded messages selling and advertising their wares. I am sitting on a bench for an electronic piano while he looks at Video games.

Here are photos from Kyoto ... I will update text later.
